Dr. Jean van Lierop
BChD (Stellenbosch), Dip Implantology (ULondon)
After graduating from Stellenbosch University with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Dr van Lierop pursued further training in the UK, where he earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Implantology from the University of London. His years abroad exposed him to cutting-edge techniques.
Dr van Lierop is passionate about dentistry, and he believes that every dentist has the ability to do great things. This passion has seen him complete his MSc in Restorative Dentistry and a PDD in Aesthetic Dentistry. He is a founding member and past president of The South African Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry (SAAAD) and Past lecturer at the University of the western Cape, Co-founder of the Restorative and Aesthetic Academy, an ITI fellow, and co-founder of “The Bridge Program”. With a strong belief in the value of sharing knowledge, Dr van Lierop has presented numerous workshops and lectures to local and international colleagues throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Dr van Lierop has worked with his colleague, Dr Corne Smith, to establish The Bridge Program. Now in its fifth year, The Bridge Program aims to give young dentists the tools to bridge the gap between University & community service towards their new careers in private practice. Over the 8 modules, the young dentist are introduced to the world of dental business; given tips on how to interact with staff and colleagues while learning how to build a structured treatment plan. The extensive clinical modules incorporate the latest tools needed to perform clinical procedures with confidence.
As a co-founder of the Restorative and Aesthetic Academy (RAA) in Cape Town, Dr van Lierop plays an instrumental role in shaping the future of dental education in the region. His clinical focus lies in comprehensive treatment planning, full-mouth rehabilitation, and the seamless integration of digital technologies into everyday practice. He is especially passionate about mentoring the next generation of dentists and is known for his clear, hands-on teaching style. Dr van Lierop believes in the power of modern adhesive techniques and restoratives. Using modern materials in a minimally invasive approach to help restore a patient’s health and confidence. This allows him to follow a comprehensive treatment style where direct restorations and adhesive dentistry plays an integral role.
Dr van Lierop has been lecturing on the topic of restorative and adhesive dentistry since 2010 and has had the pleasure of lecturing on numerous national and international conferences in the Middle East, Europe and Africa
Dr van Lierop has completed a two-year Diploma in Aesthetic dentistry in 2014 (cum Laude) and a research Masters in Restorative Dentistry (2016) which focused on the principals of minimal intervention ceramic restorations
As registered ITI speaker, Dr van Lierop has also shared on the role of implantology and advanced restorative dentistry, following a reconstructive philosophy based on a functional approach. He believes that creating durable improvements of the entire (oral) health structure is only possible if we can achieve predictability, durability and beauty.

Dr van Lierop believes in the power of shared knowledge. That everyone has something unique to contribute, and everyone can achieve greatness. It is only through perseverance and hard work that we can achieve this together. By teaching and sharing, he hopes to assist fellow dentists to achieve their greatness.
