Module 1: From Diagnosis to Design
Occlusion, Digital Smile Design & Advanced Treatment Planning
3 days
R24,500
30-31 January 2026 CPT
This module establishes the diagnostic and planning foundation for the entire programme, combining digital smile design and multidisciplinary digital workflows with occlusion. By combining cutting-edge technology with a patient centred approach, clinicians learn how to plan, communicate and execute treatment strategies that are both functional and beautiful. Participants gain hands-on experience with digital tools, including intraoral scanners, photography protocols and 3D planning software.
The module also simplifies the complexities of occlusion into clear, practical concepts that can be confidently applied in everyday restorative practice. Participants learn how to assess, manage and integrate occlusal principles to enhance function and aesthetics — from understanding the interplay between teeth, muscles and joints to mastering occlusal adjustments that improve patient comfort and the longevity of restorations. Accurate occlusal and TMJ record-taking plays a crucial role in laboratory communication.
This module will cover:
- Fundamentals of Digital Smile Design — the principles behind aesthetic and functional treatment planning
- Digital Tools & Software — intraoral scanning, digital photography and 3D simulation for efficient workflows
- Dental Photography — intra- and extraoral, studio and videography
- DSD in Patient Communication — enhancing case acceptance with visual and emotional engagement
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration — working with technicians and specialists in the digital planning process
- Interpreting Digital Designs — translating digital simulations into predictable clinical outcomes
- Functional Occlusion — how occlusion affects the longevity and predictability of restorations
- Clinical Occlusal Assessment — identifying common issues using simple checks and digital tools
- Centric Occlusion and Centric Relation — when, how and why
- The Occlusal Triad — the relationship between teeth, muscles and temporomandibular joints
- Vertical Dimension of Occlusion — its importance in complex restorative dentistry
- Managing TMD and Parafunction — recognising red flags and applying protective strategies
- Occlusal Appliances & Adjustments — splints, indications, and hands-on records, fitting and bite refinement
- Full-Mouth Considerations — integrating occlusion into complex treatment planning and rehabilitation
Ideal for clinicians looking to elevate their aesthetic planning and execution through a comprehensive, digitally driven workflow and a deeper understanding of occlusion.
